BLESSFUL 2007 and BLASTING 2008!

aku mahu diper"suami"kan demi ketenangan diri

aku mahu menjadi diriku semula...tapi siapa aku sebelumnya?

hull management yang gempak!

map exploration!

ship & weapon upgrades to buy!

ship for sale!

Argh!

Search engines for MP3
Clickster search for MP3 direct download link.

Go to Google’s search page and use the following search strings in the search dialog

intitle:index.of? File extension Name of an e-book

As example: intitle:index.of? chm Windows XP Guide

This will give you a listing of all websites that Google has cached that contain references to files in CHM format that are related to Windows XP Guide e-book. While for PDF type of e-book, use this search string.

e.g. intitle:index.of? pdf “Windows XP Guide”

For a better result, (but not specific)why not try this search string.

+(”index of”) +(”/ebooks”|”/book”) +(chm|pdf|zip|rar) +Windows XP Guide
or
allinurl: +(rar|chm|zip|pdf|tgz) +Windows XP Guide

This will get you the list of e-book in both chm and pdf file format or in file archive like zip or rar. Happy Googling!

Tips: Project Guternberg are good source of free book. Their collections of more than 15 000 e-books are produced by hundred of volunteers.

Searching MP3 files using search engine is no longer a hard thing to do especially when people have found various ways to search for the MP3 files. Why we choose the audio format is also another long topic to speak about, but the main reason is the mass availability of that type of file in the internet nowadays. Now, here are the simple guide on how to search for those music that you like, both in WMA and MP3 format:

First method:

Using altered Google, Yahoo, and MSN Search search string to find the files. This method will use the search engines to search for unprotected directory of the audio files.

How to: Click on the link below. Change the detail according to your liking (eg. replace Greenday with Hoobastank or just the song name). You can change the “wma/mp3″ tag to other format such as “ogg” only if you wish. For the search engines, it works similarly. You just need to change the band/singer or song again.

Google:
“parent directory” mp3 OR wma OR ogg OR wav Green Day -html -htm -download -links

Yahoo Search:

parent directory” AND (Green AND Day) AND (mp3 OR wma OR ogg) AND NOT(”download”) AND NOT(”links”)

MSN Search:

parent directory” AND (Green AND Day) AND (mp3 OR wma OR ogg) AND NOT(”download”) AND NOT(”links”)

Second Method:

You can use multimedia search engines to find the audio files that you need. Several multimedia search engines that I highly recommend are: Alltheweb Audio (mp3), mp3realm and espew. The only cons is, it indexes pages less than Google.

Nah, I manage to find a full album with these methods above. How about you?

Upcoming tip: How to download MP3 from radio.blog

Hi to all of you. Recently I found a new easy way to find MP3 for a download. No need todownloadmp3.gif use P2P programs where most of them contain spyware or other security treats such as trojan and mailware. Sounds interesting? In this simple guide, we wil use Exploseek tool to find the relevant MP3 download link. The concept of this tool is it will insert search parameters to our search such as:

“parent directory” mp3 OR wma OR ogg OR wav”

So, there will be no crap results that we always found when searching for MP3 using search engines. ;)

First, go to Exploseek.com to use the Exploseek tool.

Insert the artist name or the song name into the search box. Tick the “All Words” checkbox and then click the Exploseek button. Select the search result from various search engines. Personally, I recommend Google and Yahoo.

investors:don't have time to read so dump everything here (on maxis vs streamyx)

Monday, August 27, 2007

It is very important to know about your IP when you are using Streamyx because you will get VERY DIFFERENT connection quality if you are in different IP range.

I have been an unlucky one when come to Streamyx because I always get assigned the 219.x.x.x IP. 219 is a fuck up range that is over congested and deliver slower-than-turtle connection speed. Packet Loss are significant and loading up a page is consider fast if it can finish in 30 seconds. Sometimes it takes me 120 seconds to load up a page! Just a single page!

Once a while I will be having exceptional internet speed. Page loaded in less than 10 seconds for all sites and bandwidth test return 800kbps even to a US test server. It happens like twice a month. I thought that streamyx has fixed their fucking problem and my curse is over! Then out of curiosity, I actually want to confirm if they really have fix their fucking problem. So I actually go and DISCONNECT and reconnect. What The Fuck! My good connection is gone and I am back to the old shit days. %*(#!@#$^%

It took me a long time to actually find out what is causing this! When I am in rocket speed, I am actually connected to 218.x IP range. If I am connected to 219.x range, I am in deep shit! After knowing this, I really go and keep redialing until I can get 218.x and keep my router alive as long as possible even when I go to sleep.

This is confirm true when I try to search in the internet about this. Many people known this little secret for a long time (I am late!) and they are using this trick to get good connection. However, even knowing this trick doesn’t help much because it is very very very hard to get 218.x especially at night. I remember one night I dial almost 100 times before I can get it.
After that sohai technician went back and do a report that say my connection is ‘OK’, another staff call me to inform me the status of my report. We have a really long chat talking on points and facts. He is indeed a polite guy and not like the sohai. And it is from here that I know a lot more about streamyx problem and the IP thing. First let talk about the IP thing.

1. All streamyx users will get either 219.x, 218.x or 60.x

2. 218.x is VERY FAST because it is not streamyx line! It is actually TM-NET special dedicated line. This product is called TM Direct. I call to TM Direct and ask about the pricing. 384kbps dedicated line is RM52,000 per year and after discount is RM40,000+. He said if I subscribe I will be the first home user to do so. haha.

3. The reason we get into the 218.x is because of ‘accident’. TM-NET is working now to fix this hole and will block streamyx users for ‘accidentally’ connected to the 218.x in September/October. Damn It! By that time you can’t even get 218.x even if you redial 1,000,000 times.

4. 218.x is only use by a small amount of dedicated customers, so it is fast. 219.x is over congested by ordinary streamyx users.

5. 60.x is streamyx new IP range and many users will start getting it. It is a lot better than the 219.x and people who have 1mbps package can easily connected to this IP range. I have never get this myself! My friend do get it.

6. In the coming 2 months, most streamyx users will be directed to the 60.x IP range. The use of 219.x will be reduced.

Now let’s talk about the streamyx problem.

The guy do admit that they have problem connecting to international sites and they can’t do anything about it. So even if I bombard them will emails or keep calling, they can’t do anything (i will continue still do so to release my frustration). They say they can control the connection speed within Malaysia only, anything else is up to the foreign ISPs.

But my point is simple, if good connection can be delivered via 218.x.x.x without any problem, that simply means good connection are ARCHIEVABLE! Don’t give lame excuse and push your responsibility to foreign ISPs! The best cause for our slow connection is that TM-NET is overloading their streamyx line.

Streamyx 218 IP rangeLook at this image, it is a bandwidth test to US Virginia server using the IP 218.x.x.x. The download speed is 806kbps! What a fantastic speed! This is what streamyx should be delivering on all time. This is what we are paying for!

Here you will see the same bandwidth test done to the same US Virginia server, using the same computer and modem but under fuck up 219.x.x.x IP. See the differences!

IP 219 Streamyx

The poor result is only 49.6kbps which is lower than dial up 56.6kbps! And notice that upload speed is actually higher than download speed! My God.

Now let’s go more technical into Traceroute. Traceroute can tell us a lot of thing regarding the condition of our connection. One important thing is PACKET LOST. Which tell us the amount of data that is ‘leak’ out when it is being transfer. Let first look at the traceroute to US JP Morgan bank website using the fuck up 219. Inside the red box, you can see that large amout of data is LOST (i.e. missing in action, leak away). If 10 packet of data are sent to you but 9 is missing half way, how can you be able to get a good bandwidth?

streamyx 219 traceroute

Let’s look at the same traceroute done to the same website using the 218 IP.

streamyx 218 traceroute

Did you notice the differences? There is absolutely now data LOST and thus it can achieve a very high bandwidth!

Conclusion

Streamyx is wasting our time, money and energy. They give us a lot of frustration, stress and dissapointment. My explanation on the 219 and 218 shows that it is really TM-Net problem itself and they can’t blame the foreign ISPs.

Last point, 70,000 subscribers in Malaysia with RM88/month = 6 million ringgit. I think if we can just contribute 1 month of our streamyx fee, we can easily file a class law suit to them. Suing them OVER PROMISE and UNDER DELIVER! Suing them lying to their customers saying that they don’t have any connection problem.

What are you waiting for?

Join StreamyxSucks.com Now!

Back to latencies, getting 218.x.x.x IPs enabled me to play WoW with 300-600ms latencies, which is very acceptable for gameplay. However, whenever you had to shutdown the router, and you get 219.x.x.x IPs, my pings would go upto 10,000ms. That means every action I do on my gaming, I had to wait for 10 seconds to see it happen on average. I’m so sick of it that I have to sit in front of the PC, connecting and disconnecting for 2 hours in order to get the “good” 218.x.x.x IP.

What a lame broadband provider we have. If only we can do something like filing a lawsuit against false advertising against streamyx. Anyone here with some legal expertise wanna start the ball rolling?

Here is a link to solve the max windows internet connection easily. Dnload this free proggie and it willautomatically set it for you. Uninstall it after 3 runs/ 3 shutdowns and the settings will be permanent.

http://www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal

ansuri here,

i already posted my offer here http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...0#entry12830815
but i thought of posting it in a new thread so i could specify the thread title here. hope the mods understand =)

lemme put some details of my offering here.

- i'm letting go my maxis broadband 768 kbps account
- i bought it during recent PCfair @ KL.convention.center
- along with the package. i got a ZTE MF600 HSDPA wireless modem, a maxisBB sim card, and a Shiro (keypad-lockable) telephone

i like the fact that maxisBB speed is tremendously outrages. i tried comparing surfing speed to certain flash pages with my streamyx-user friend, and the result is satisfying. and i dont use torrent, so i dont care much about maxis blocking p2p. this guy over here http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/341424/+1000 run some test on his maxisBB (384kbps). and as u can see the result is satisfying. mine is 768kbps.

i tried surfing some famous video sites with maxisBB, and i can tell u the speed is awsome. sites like u-tube or meta-cafe offers light video file size for u to download n watch. e-mail no problem. surfing this forum is like a blink-of-an-eye (figure of speech). doing online banking is safer coz u didnt get stuck on any page.

my reason for letting maxisBB go is because of the bandwidth limit. though i didnt download stuffs from torrent, i'm actively down/uploading video files from/to certain servers. i'm doing freelance on video editing and sometimes i need to upload videos for my clients to view stage by stage. because the file size that i'm dealing with is big, maxis always limits my connection. and its bugging me coz instead of using a convinient internet technology which was suppose to help me, i have to ride tru traffic jams to my client's office to pass up the videos.

so it's a little inconvinient for me in a certain way. but i'm sure there's some people out there who cares for internet speed, and would not matter much on the bndwidth limit.

so anybody willing to continue my account, i'm willing to tranfer it for free [modem, sim, phone, and account for free (if maxis charge for account transfer, then u'll hav to pay for it)]. u just have to continue the monthly bills, and that's it.

so if anyone interested please contact me @ 016.6044.505 . if i didn't pick up, leave me an sms.

- The price is RM98 monthly.
- 3GB data transfer per month!!!! if i download 4-5 movies almost reach the quota.
- cannot left idle 20-30minutes, fuhhhh..always need to reconnect..and interrupt download/upload file.

I received an email from my reader. He wanted to voice out how poor/bad/terrible TMNet Support center is. This is my help for him, by publishing his email to me.

Again, I am tired of making complain to TMNet too, recently I have problem with TMNet Hotspot, called them, they asked me to restart the router. I told them DHCP problem, cannot assign IP Address to me, they ask me restart router. Then I know the support people is a dumbass, they don’t know what is DHCP, they only thing they know is “restart router”. Wasted my time talking to him and to her(I called 3 times, 3 diffferent people, giving me the same solution). Can you see how lame the support people are?

It’s TMNet Hotspot, how you want me to restart the router? Furthermore a lot of places provide TMNet Hotspot are having the same problem, it’s impposible all the router have the same problem right? If it’s then it shows TMNet use a very very low end and poor quality hardware to cons subscribers money. Why Timenet can provide free wireless but TM can’t? It’s a shame, for a Malaysia giant/premier telco company.

After all, I think it’s staff attitude problem, not company problem. Not all Telekom Malaysia’s staffs have bad attitude, but most of them are.

Since i subscribe streamx, it has been always disconnect…..especially when i am back from work. So what for i pay for the bill since i cant use it when I need it???i subscride stramyx is because of 24hours service… but what i think now, all is just a big lie to all the Malaysian.

Then when i ever i meet the disconnect problem, i called them. But the problem is nobody is picking up the phone. they said their service is 24 hours. But WHY nobody picking up the phone. So, i wondering wether they are sleeping o what!!! So this kind of service they provide to the customer.

After i cant get from the streamyx, so i called up for the dial up 1515. i did that because they are same company, and they get the salary from the same boss. But what i get from them is a rude manner. they js convert my call to the streamyx department which there is nobody picking up the phone. So i straight complain to them and i asked the officer talk to me. So a operator admit her as one of the officer. She told that her name is “Nazami”. But the way she speak to me is very and extreamly rude. she is bang my phone and straight convert to the streamyx department. So i fed up and i called her again. Then she just go on scolded at me. Come on, is this service they given. I am not her husband or boy friend tat i need to stand her. Instead i am a customer, and customer is always right!!!!then i called again another guy picking up the phone, the guy had apologized to me. But what i want now is the girl apologize to me because of her rude and suck manner!!!

I was already sad that day because of the disconnection and i couldnt contact my boy friend in
vietnam. and then i get that suck service. So it is really hurt and make me fed up. So if the girl is not going to apologize to me, i will not stop complaining. i may complain to the media. I know it is useless to complain to the streamyx. But the action should be taken and find the girl to apologize to me.

Actually, before i subscride it, i faced a lot of problem. For example the promotion is totally different from store to store. And what the agent told me that they just lik direct sales. But please Direct sale also has their system. And what a international company- TMNET is so unsystematic??? So there is a Question mark!!!!

If oneday, i really need the tmnet service, may be i been lock by somebody in my house, i want to seek help by usiing tmnet. What i can tell is i surely will be DIE!!!

So i think this is the kind of service they given !!!

Trust me... it's worth listening to.

tmnet-logoA lot of my friends complain to me about their slow streamyx speed. Actually, Iâۉ„¢m having the same problem too. It is also hard for me since I need to surf the internet everyday to get my works done. From my reading through the internet not a long time ago, it seems that Tmnet has throttled the bandwidth among the users. It may be because of heavy load of P2P connection by other users. As far as I know, every user should get their right for their port. Tmnet should not take this reason as their main point in reducing the speed.

Streamyx also has slow access to United States based server. This blog is hosted by Dreamhost in California so streamyx user might have problem accessing this site. Sorry for that inconvenience.

How to fix the slow streamyx connection?

The basic think you need to do is tweak your internet connection is by optimizing the TCP/IP setting. What is TCP/IP? Well, basically it is the suite of communication protocols used to connect host on the internet. If your TCP/IP settings are configured properly, you can achieve good speed with your broadband connection.

The second step is to optimize your internet browser. We will make the browser suit the type of your internet connection whether you use 512Kbps package or the 1 Mbps package. Both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer can be optimized using this tweak.

The third step is to get avoid from traffic-shaping by applying some tweak for your favourite torrent client. This is very useful for P2P fan.

The fourth and the final step is a manual way , which will be revealed at the end of this article.

How to do that?

Before this, it is very hard to tweak all those settings using regedit tools to edit your Windowâۉ„¢s registry. You might do some mistake and it is very troublesome.

Fortunately, today there is one software that enable you to apply the first and the second step in just some clicks. For this tutorial, the software that we are going to use is TuneUp Utilities 2006. You need to pay it if you plan to use it for more than 30 days, but for donâۉ„¢t worry since it offers all function during the trial period. Get it here and install it as usual. You will only need to use it once.

1) Open the program. Click âہ“Optimize and Improveâ€Â on the main window, and then choose TuneUp System Optimizer.

2) At the start page, select âہ“accelerate downloads and Internet surfingâ€Â, then choose the type of your connection.

3) So, click next. After that, restart your computer. Settle.

How to avoid traffic shaping and the final way to optimize Streamyx

You can learn from these articles on how to avoid traffic shaping to top bittorrent client program:
Prevent traffic shaping on Bitcomet
Prevent traffic shaping on Azureus
Prevent traffic shaping on Utorrent

Now, the final method is going to be revealed. What are we going to talk about is related with your IP address. You need to know your IP address first. So, go to this site to check your IP number.

If you got another number than 218.111.xxx, and 219.95.xxx, be prepare to reconnect your ADSL modem until you get the IP number started with that. This method is known as hammering the B-ras. Why do I say this? It is because sometimes, IP address other than that will have a problem accessing online games, IRC, due to slow ping time. It is related with technical aspect and I suggest that you also learn stuff such as IP range from Wikipedia to get a clearier view about it.

Well, we have just finished doing some tricks to optimize our internet connection using streamyx. Does your connection improve? If yes, then congratulation. If not, maybe we will have to wait for a few days hoping it will become stable later.

Living in Malaysia and using internet broadband service Streamyx from TMNet? You will notice that bittorrent download is currently blocked via bandwidth capping by TMnet. As result, we as the users won’t be able to download file easily from international peers using Bittorrent unless there are other Malaysian streamyx users seeding the file. Sometimes, the download speed can fall to a rate that’s not even imaginable by modern internet user and if we managed to download the file, surely it had took few hours of pain (2kbps anyone?).

Now, let’s just forget the suffering that we all hate to have. To solve this problem we can subscribe for VPN or Torrent Flux server. The methods have proven to gives out nice result from test result in local internet forum but that method will cost us some money for the service charge. Fortunately there is alternative free method that enable us to download with decent speed which is by using bittorrent client called Xunlei (in Chinese) or Thunder (in English).

Stumbled upon it via famous local torrent site few weeks ago, I decided to test it immediately and from the result, I was excited to see that it got me nice download speed for both local and international files download. Maybe TMnet can’t block the bt client due to the language used, huh? (Just like the previous Toutou bt client). Hope this will last long.

I can’t provide the screenshot though here as I’ve formatted my computer, It’s not that I don’t want to show you the proof. Anyway, it was only available in Chinese language at first but a Lowyat.net member HeheHunter has made it available in English with no ads so credit to him. I suggest you to try and see if Xunlei / Thunder would be able to beat your convesional bt clients (utorrent, bitcomet, or azureus).

Download link, instructions, and FAQ are available at Thunder Download Page.

Maxis Broadband rocks!!!

I have been testing the Maxis Broadband and the Unlimited Data for some time now. Wow!!! Its really fast...

First, I strongly recommend to not fully believe what you have read on most of the forum regarding Maxis broadband.Of course there are some facts which are true, but again, Maxis HSDPA is truly fast!!!

Of course, it does has its downside which I cannot browse the internet at all when it moves to Maxis GPRS or EDGE network. I also see that some images has been compressed by the network on certain website.

Overall, speed was very fast, as long as you are within the Maxis HSDPA coverage.

Here are some facts which I got from "The Insider":-

  • P2P is capped but you can use it between 1am-6am as they allow it during the time
  • 3GB limit is just to scare users, they will not disconnect you anyway
  • There are plans to offer USB modem(Wireless Broadband) in future
  • You have the option to terminate the Voice Service even though without returning the phone and can be done via phone call
  • Skype or any P2P based software is banned
  • Unlimited Data Plan(D120) with 3GB limit was decided by the postpaid department and not the broadband department
  • The 768Kbps package is not capped at 768kbps but it will be able to go up as high as the Unlimited Data package.
  • In normal case, Maxis tries not to disconnect you but will switch you to the 3G network if the network finds "no activity" in the HSDPA network.
Overall you can achieve bandwidth up to 3Mbps based on location and signal. I will recommend the 768Kbps and the Unlimited Data package if you are within the HSDPA coverage.

Note: I did not try the 384Kbps package and I guess that most people are complaining about it(forums). Its sad that I do not have a good 3G coverage(weak signal) in my area even though it supports HSDPA. I am able to achieve somewhere around 384Kbps with my 1.8Mbps modem(phone) in my area with only 1-2 signal bars.

I guess all the questions are answered...

P.s: If you will like to see specific test results, I need a HSDPA PCMIA card. Send me an email if you are able to help.....I will be returning all the test sim and modem soon.

Arthur said...

Technically HSDPA is fast because one user can possibly use up all the channels especially when no one else is using it. Also HSDPA is enhanced version of WCDMA. When HSUPA is here, uploading will be super fast too.

With WCDMA, if only one channel is allocated, and that user will always have that fixed bit rate and will not improve.

That's why.

scamboy said...

They claimed to make users to utilize more on UMTS while switching to HSDPA automatically when it is needed.

Small files are usually downloaded using 3G while big files will use HSDPA.

Thats why they called it "Fair Usage Policy"...hahahahah

Douglas said...

I upgraded from the 384kbps to the 768kbps Package. Makes a world of difference with the 768kbps package. Speeds range from around 700kbps to 1.2Mbps. Costs an extra RM30 monthly but I think it is worth it.

scamboy said...

The speed is just the same as Streamyx..>>"Best Effort".It depends on the area where there is not many users using the service.

Personally, I would go for Celcom3G as it has been able to keep its promise on the offering speed.

Maxis would not issue a data account if you live above 5th floor. For some people, they are still able to use Maxis3G with no problem even above the 7th floor.

With Maxis, you will be signing up with a contract while with Celcom there is no contract.

The 20 Biggest Online Time Wasters, and 6 Strategies for Beating Them

Friday, August 24, 2007

Like many people these days, I spend most of my working hours online. At least half of those hours, I'm doing actual work.

As millions have discovered, working at a computer with Internet access is a hazard to your productivity. There are so many cool sites, so many ways of connecting with others, so many things to do that are fun or intensely interesting, that it's hard to actually get anything done. The sites listed below are time drains, sucking up your precious hours by their amazingly cool attractions.

Should you never go on these sites? Are they completely useless? Of course not. The reason they're listed here is because they are great sites or activities, but because they are so great, they can become addictive. And while it's fine to use these sites for useful purposes, getting work done when you need to get work done and having fun when you can, it's the addiction that you need to watch closely.

Before we get into the list of time-wasters, let's take a look at 6 strategies to beat time-wasters and keep yourself on task.

1. Track time. You might not know exactly how bad your addiction is, because the time you spend on some of these sites just flies by. Try tracking your time, at least for a little while, to see where your problem areas are. Page Addict is one of a number of good utilities for this, and once you see your worst time-wasters, you can also use it for the next strategy.

2. Block them. Once you've identified your worst time wasters, it's possible to block them with one of several utilities. Stealth Kiwi and Leech Block are two of my favorites.

3. Unplug. Another strategy that actually works really well is to unplug from the Internet when you really need to get work done. When you finish you task, connect and have fun, then unplug again for some more serious work.

4. Go on a diet. This is a more drastic strategy, but sometimes it's necessary if your addiction has gotten really bad. Disconnect yourself from the Internet for at least a day, if not 2-3 days or even a week. The worse your addiction, the longer your diet should be. After the period of complete disconnection, follow Strategy 6 below by going on an extremely limited information diet.

5. Just let go. This strategy is for those of us who feel that if we don't answer all of our emails, or read all of our feeds, or check our blog stats, or see what's happening on our favorite social sites, then somehow the world will fall apart. Of course, we never put it that way in our head, but the urge is still there. But what happens if you just let go, and allow your email to pile up for a day, or don't check your stats or your favorite forum? The world will go on. This might seem obvious, but again, I think many of us have a subconscious idea that something bad will happen if we don't stay up to date. Try letting go for a day, and see what happens.

6. Limit time. This is actually the most sensible strategy, but of course it's not easy if you have an addiction. Therefore, I recommend you use it in conjunction with one of the above strategies. For this strategy, you decide how many minutes and how many times you are going to allow yourself to go on your worst time-wasting sites. If email is your addiction, for example, you might decide to check email only twice a day for 30 minutes a session. Decide on what time limit would work best for you, put it on a schedule (10 a.m. and 4 p.m., for example), and stick to it. If you have trouble sticking to it, try one of the other strategies.

OK, we've identified some strategies for dealing with these time-wasters, so let's take a look at them. Please note: if you haven't already visited one of these time-wasters, I'd advise that you don't do so now, especially if you have work to do.

1. Email. Whether it's Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, Outlook, or some other favorite email client, email is the king of time-wasters. It's a very productive tool, of course, and a necessity for most of us these days. However, it is also an addiction, and we often put off our work by going to check our email. It's important that you turn off email notifications if you have work to do (and you know you do!), and limit your time spent checking and processing and responding to email.

2. Google Reader. Any RSS feed reader, including Bloglines or Thunderbird, is included in this item. If you have 100+ feeds to read every day, you'll spend a lot of time with your feed reader. And any time you feel like procrastinating, you can open up the feed reader and see what new posts have been published. Limit your feed reading to once a day, and cut your feeds down to a minimum.

3. AIM. Or any chat client (IRC, Googletalk, MSN Messenger, Yahoo, Skype, what have you). If you've always got your chat client open, even if you put your status as "away" or "busy" or something like that, you will be constantly interrupted by new messages, new people coming online, new people trying to get your attention. Make your time yours by closing your chat client, and only opening it when you really need to chat.

4. Online solitaire. Or any similar online games, including chess, sudoku, Bejeweled, whatever. I know, it's addicting. Block these games.

5. World of Warcraft. Or any of the other popular MMORPGs. People can spend days, nights, weeks on these things, as they are amazingly addicting. In fact, they should be regulated like drugs.

6. Blogs. Many people read blog posts through feed readers (see Item #2), but many bookmark their favorite blogs and read them directly on the site, and find new blogs through the blogrolls of their favorite blogs, and spend a lot of time reading through archives and comments and also commenting on all these blogs. It can take up your whole day. Read Dumb Little Man and Zen Habits and a few others, and be done!

7. Forums. Or newsgroups. A favorite social hangout for many people, there are thousands of forums out there, and many of them are quite useful. It can be a great thing to discover others who are going through the same things you are (such as the quit smoking forum I joined a couple of years ago), or who are interested in the same things you are. So I'm not knocking forums at all. But you should still set a time limit on how long you spend on forums, and maybe only do it once or twice a day.

8. News sites. News addicts out there, you know who you are. Some people are plugged into the news all day long. Personally, I've learned that the news doesn't benefit me at all, and I've disconnected from watching the news, reading newspapers and reading news websites. I still hear about the important stuff, but really, disconnecting from news hasn't hurt me a bit. I'm not saying you should go to this extreme, but you should still consider limiting your news consumption to a minimum.

9. YouTube. You can spend hours upon hours watching cool stuff on YouTube, as every video has a dozen other related ones to get you to stay on the site. And that really works. I've spent days on YouTube, to be truthful, before deciding never to do it again. Now, I watch a video and then immediately close the tab.

10. Facebook/MySpace. I'm not an addict of either of these sites, but I can see the appeal. My teen-age daughter is addicted, and I know many adults who are too. There's no shame in that, but you should realize that it's an addiction, combining the appeal of blogs, email and forums.

11. Digg. After spending an entire day reading the articles on Digg, and the comments, I cut myself off from Digg before a real addiction could form. But I know first-hand that this can be very addicting. There's a huge community on Digg, and there's always new stuff, and you could do nothing else but read through Digg. Get off it before it consumes your life.

12. Productivity tools. I'll admit, I'm a victim of this. New productivity tools are coming up all the time, from to-do list managers to contact managers to cool GTD tools to new utilities and plugins. But it's not productive to be constantly switching tools and twiddling with them.

13. Online shopping. Amazon, Ebay, and the hundreds of other popular shopping sites online. The worst thing about these sites is that you don't only spend a lot of time on them (there's so much stuff out there!) but you also end up spending a lot of money. This was one reason I cut up my credit card.

14. ESPN.com. I haven't been a sports addict for years, but I know there are many out there who can spend a lot of time each day checking on scores, fantasy football stats, watching the action, watching replays, reading commentaries, and chatting on sports forums. Sports fans, know that you just might have an addiction.

15. Humor sites. When I find a great humor site, I can spend a long, long time reading through the archives. If you haven't gone to any of these sites, don't do it unless you have a day to waste: Maddox, Pointless Waste of Time, The Onion, The Daily Show, Comics Curmudgeon.

16. Wikipedia. One of the most useful sites on the planet. Also very addicting, especially if you become involved in contributing to the articles. But even if you don't, one article leads to another, which leads to another ... and there's your whole day.

17. Flickr. People have got some great photos out there. And they put up such personal stuff that surfing through Flickr is a new form of voyeurism. An addicting form, that is.

18. IMDB. Want to look up an actor or a movie title? Sure, just open up the Internet Movie Database, one of the greatest things ever invented, and do a quick search. But hey, there's a link to another movie you're interested in, and wow, you forgot about that actor, and cool, there's trivia and goofs for that movie too. Hours down the drain.

19. Ask MeFi. MetaFilter has one of the best online communities around, but there's just so much stuff on there that you can never run out of reading material. My favorite is Ask MetaFilter, in which you can find great answers to just about any question you can think of. But what about this question, for all you Ask MeFi folks: "Where did my day go?"

20. Blog stats. If you are a blogger, there's a 99% chance that you check your blog stats, and your ad stats, more than once a day. And a very middling to good chance that you do it much more than that. I'm a victim of this, so I can't preach, but here's a realization I came up with (be prepared to be blown away): your stats and your ad revenues don't change much in 2 minutes. And 2 minutes later, not much has changed still. It took me way too long to realize this.

How to "Fail proof" Your Day and your Life

Friday, August 24, 2007

Are you constantly forgetting things when you leave the house, missing appointments, searching for your keys, and more? If so, you're not alone. Modern life is very hectic. We've all got a lot going on and consequently our minds are scattered. You'll be happy to know that there is an easy solution. Apply this magic question every time you have something you MUST not forget: "How can I fail proof it?" Make sure there are no loopholes and you'll be on your way to success.

How to Fail proof It:

1. Things You Need to Bring with You -multiple options:

* Create a list and tape it to your front door handle.
* Tape List to your car steering wheel.
* Place the items right at the foot of your front door.
* Take the item(s) out to your car as soon as you think of it.

2. Appointments - if you often miss appointments, create more than one reminder to failproof it.

* Electronic Calendars - GCalendar will send text message reminders if you sign up for it.
* PDA reminders - Simple enough, we all have cell phones or blackberry's nowadays, just remember to use it!
* Phone reminders - set a reminder on your cell phone or set a free phone call reminder with TelePixie.

3. Ideas You Don't Want to Forget

* Write it down! - keep one notebook where you write down all ideas and which you check each day/night to assign those ideas into your next actions list.
* Jott It - send a voice message to yourself which will be converted to text and emailed to you along with the original audio.
* Use voice memo on your phone, pda, camera, or voice memo device.

4. Items You Frequently Lose - keys, remote control, cell phone, purse, etc.

* Establish a place for these important items.
* Always put them in the same place.
* Create an appropriately sized bin specifically for these items and affix a large label on it to remind you and others.

5. Shared Items That Get Lost - remote controls, keys, etc.

* Tie them down. This is drastic, but if you live in a household where multiple people use and frequently lose something, you can consider this option.
* Attach something large to the item. If the item is small, like a remote control, you could try taping it to a very large heavy book. It will still be portable, but less likely to get lost.
* Consider getting one for each person. This only works if the item in question is inexpensive like keys. This is good if nothing else is working and your frustration is high. Then just make sure you put yours away in a safe place!
* Lock them. You can use a gun lock type of lock. You can create something to lock it too using duct tape or packing tape. It might look ugly, but it might also work. The most responsible person in the household keeps the key.
* Attach a homing device to the item. Here is an example:
o Sharper Image Now You Can Find It! Electronic Locater (SI676FUN) ($39) by Sharper Image or click here for more locater devices available at Amazon.com.

6. Information and Paperwork - passports, passwords, birth certificates, etc.

* Establish a filing system.
* File as you go or at least once a week.
* Establish one place for important information.
* Paper system for information. Keep it with all your other files.
* For really important papers consider a fireproof lockbox.
* Electronic information systems. Use the simplest possible. Some people use just one long text file and use the
"find" feature to search. Or you could use something like Google Notebook which is free and has search built in.

7. Your Mind - this one is a little tougher! :)

* Try and follow the above suggestions.
* Write everything down so you're not trying to remember everything in your head. Hopefully, then, you'll be able to hold onto your sanity!

What are your best tips to keep from losing things and forgetting appointments?

What follows are some of the best tips for getting yourself out of debt -- ones that I've applied to my life, that most financial advisors recommend, and that many others have used successfully. All boiled down into one list, for your convenience. Pick and choose the tips that work best for you.

1. Write down your financial goal. A large goal is not likely to be achieved if you don't write it down. Type it out, print it out in large font, and post it up on your refrigerator. What is your goal? A 50% reduction of your debt? Complete debt elimination in two years? Whatever it is, be specific and write it down, and don't forget it.

2. Create rewards. People who are good at achieving any goal will tell you that rewards are important. Try to give yourself a treat at regular intervals, or little celebrations when a debt is paid off. Let them motivate you to succeed.

3. Think positive. This may be one of the most important tips on this list. Positive thinking may sound corny and trite, but trust me, it works. It's actually crucial to debt elimination. If you start letting negative thoughts get into your head, it will cause you to want to give up. And debt elimination is such a long-term goal that it's important that you not give up. When you feel yourself thinking negative thoughts, squash them and replace them with positive thoughts.

4. Stop digging. As the saying goes, if you're trying to get out of a hole, stop digging. It's important that you stop using your credit cards for spending, and slow down your spending, so that you don't get further into debt. Need to buy something but don't have the money. You'll need to find the money first, or wait until you have it, instead of using credit.

5. Make a list of debts. This is a difficult step for many, but necessary. If you're going to tackle your debt problem, you need to know what it looks like. Make a list of all your debts, their minimum monthly payments, interest rates, and total amount owed. A spreadsheet works well for this. Then total up the monthly payments and the total amounts owed to see what the damage is. Now that you have a clear picture of your debts, you can begin to make a plan to conquer them.

6. Reduce expenses. See what you can do immediately to reduce your spending, whether it be cutting on things like buying coffee (make your own), eating out (cook at home), or shopping (just stop), or whether it be looking to cut out major bills like a second car payment or your yacht. If you can reduce expenses, even by a couple hundred a month, you can use that money to start paying down your debt. Whatever you free up from your expenses, dedicate that to making an extra debt payment (see the debt snowball below).

7. Make extra cash. In addition to reducing expenses, you should see if you can bring in some additional income. Work part time, do some freelance work, sell some of your stuff on eBay, hold a garage sale, take in a boarder, rent out your yacht. Get creative. It doesn't have to be permanent, although you might decide to keep bringing in the extra income even after you're out of debt.

8. Make a simple budget. This is another step that many people dread. Well, it doesn't have to be complicated. Make a simple list of the things you spend on every month, including your minimum debt payments. Write down how much you spend on each one (and be realistic). Total it up. Then add up your income, and see if the income exceeds the expenses. If not, you'll need to reduce the expenses.

9. Watch for irregular expenses. Think ahead to expenses that may be coming up, like Christmas and birthdays, or insurance or home repairs or car maintenance or back-to-school shopping. These are things that don't happen every month, but that will definitely be coming up. Budget for them, saving a little so that you are prepared. It's best to include a small amount in your monthly budget for irregular expenses like this, so that you have the money when you need it.

10. Save an emergency fund. This tip might seem strange in a list of debt elimination tips, but it's actually very important. Without at least a small emergency fund, you'll have an extremely difficult time reducing your debt. The reason is that when unexpected expenses come up (and they always do), if you have no emergency fund, the first thing you'll cut is your debt elimination payment so that you can pay for the unexpected expense. Either that, or you'll use your credit card and get further into debt. Try to save up $1,000 in a savings account to pay for these unexpected expenses and ensure that your debt elimination goes smoothly. Once you've saved up that $1,000, put it all towards debt.

11. Stop using credit cards. Many of us have a problem with credit cards. If you're the type to pay your balance in full each month, and not carry credit card debt, you can skip this tip. If you don't pay your balance in full, cut up your cards or hide them and stop using them. The interest is extremely high, and it's way too easy to use a credit card.

12. Use cash. Instead of putting all your expenses on a card, try using the green stuff instead. Each payday, withdraw the amount of cash needed for your spending expenses in the simple budget you created (see above). Pay your bills online first, then withdraw the cash for groceries, gas, and other spending. When you run out of cash, you're out. It's that simple.

13. Use a debt snowball. Popularized by financial adviser Dave Ramsey, the debt snowball is a simple method that works well for many people. First, identify at least $100 that you can use as your "debt snowball". Use this amount to increase your payment on your smallest debt, while paying the minimum on your other debts. Soon, your smallest debt will be paid off. Now take the total amount you were paying on that debt (the "debt snowball" amount plus the minimum payment for that debt), and use it as your debt snowball amount for your next smallest debt. Continue to do that, with your debt snowball amount building up as the debts are paid off, until all debts are paid off. An alternate strategy (and a popular one as well), is paying the highest interest debts first, as this will save you a little money in interest.

14. Automate your minimums. Make the minimum payments for each of your debts automatic, so you don't even think about them. Either allow the companies to deduct the amount automatically out of your account, or use your bank's online bill pay feature and make them automatically recurring payments.

15. Make the debt elimination payment a bill. The extra payment you're making on one of your debts (see debt snowball tip above), on top of the minimum payments, should be treated as a bill, not as an optional expense. That means, when you pay your bills, be sure to pay the debt elimination payment along with the rest of the bills. Don't let it be optional at all.

16. Get lower rates. Either find a balance transfer for your credit cards that will lower your interest rates (read the fine print carefully), or work out a plan with your current credit card companies to lower your rates. Many credit card companies are willing to lower interest rates if you tell them that you will move to a competitor with lower rates.

17. Monitor impulse spending urges. Impulse spending is the culprit that leads us to get into debt, and often keeps us there despite our desire to get out of debt. Learn to monitor your urges, so that you're aware of them and can control them. Often, when you get the urge to buy something, your heart beats faster and your breathing gets a little heavier. If you can get past these urges, you can control your spending.

18. Use a 30-day list. A good tool for controlling impulse buys is to use a 30-day list and to stick to it. Every time you get the urge to buy something that isn't absolutely essential (and by "essential" I mean things like groceries, not the latest iGadget), write it on the list with the date you wrote it on the list. Then don't allow yourself to buy it until 30 days have passed. Often, the urge or need to buy that item will have disappeared.

19. Stop shopping. Don't go to the mall or other usual shopping hangouts. Don't go places to "shop" -- only go to a store if you have something specific to buy (a need, not a want) and don't buy anything else. Get in, then get out.

20. Don't buy online either. Shopping applies to online shopping sites, such as Amazon or eBay. It's so easy to buy online that many of us do it way too often, and don't realize how much we actually spend. Stay off these sites if possible.

21. Eat at home. If you tend to eat out a lot, try cooking for yourself instead as much as possible. Make a weekly menu of stuff you like to eat that's not difficult to cook, make a list of the ingredients you need, shop for them, and then cook the simple meals each day. Eating out once in awhile is OK, but if you can make a dent in your dining out spending, you can often free up a lot of cash for debt elimination.

22. Maintain your focus. One of the hardest things about achieving a long-term goal such as debt elimination is the tendency for our focus on that goal to fade away. Focus is the key to achieving any goal, and to achieve a long-term goal, you have to find ways to maintain that focus. Having a debt-elimination partner, or joining an online forum, is a good way, as is posting your goal or a picture of your goal somewhere visible. Also keep a debt diary or email yourself reminders every so often. Do whatever it takes.

23. Leave yourself wiggle room. It's unwise to eliminate all extra spending and dedicate it all to debt elimination. That's a recipe for disaster. You have to give yourself some spending money to eat out or buy things now and then (but much less frequently than before), or you will begin to feel deprived and eventually give up.

24. Brown bag it. If you eat out a lot for lunch, try packing a lunch and eating at work. This can save a lot of money over the course of a month. It requires buying stuff to make for lunch, and a little time in the morning (or the evening before) to pack it, but it's worth the extra effort. Bonus: it's usually healthier too.

25. Find free entertainment. Entertainment is another expense that can greatly hurt your debt elimination efforts. And it's one that you can reduce drastically in most cases. Instead of going out at night, or going to a bar, or going to the movies, or whatever you do for fun that costs money, find ways to have fun for free (or at least for cheap). Staying home and reading or doing fun things at home, or going to the park, or exercising, or spending time with family or friends, can all be a lot of fun without costing a lot of money.

26. Reduce big expenses. The big expenses, like housing and auto, can often be reduced by a large amount if you examine them carefully and give them some thought. Of course, making a reduction in these expenses isn't as easy as cutting out your morning latte, but they can make such a big difference that it's worth the effort. Housing costs, for example, should be no more than 33 percent of your household income (as a general guideline of course), including mortgage payments, property tax, and both property and homeowner's insurance. Shop around for lower insurance rates, refinance your mortgage, or look for ways to reduce utility costs.

27. Look for bargains. Some people are born bargain hunters, and the rest of us have to learn the skill. Whenever you're going to purchase something, take the time to do the research, find the best prices, look out for sales, even ask for discounts. If you can get bargains on your purchases, you can reduce your expenses by a good amount.

28. Look for free or used stuff first. Instead of buying something when you need it, see if you can find someone else who has the item but doesn't need it. Send out an email to friends and family, letting them know what you need. Or look on craigslist.com or freecycle.org. If you can't find it for free, try finding a used version of it for cheap, at garage sales, thrift shops, eBay, etc.

29. Debt free? Save, then spend. When your debt is finally paid off, save 60 percent of what you were using to pay debt, and enjoy the other 40 percent. This will allow you to feel the freedom of being debt free while saving for your other goals.

30. Educate yourself. If you're going to tackle a problem like debt, it's best to arm yourself with information. Do some research on the web, read "Your Money or Your Life", read Dave Ramsey. Go to the library instead of buying these books.

31. Get creative. Getting what you need and what you want without spending much is an art form. It can be done with a little imagination and creativity. Find new ways to meet your needs without spending a lot. It can actually be a lot of fun.

32. Spend 60 percent of your income. A good guideline used by many people is to make your necessary monthly expenses equal only 60 percent of your gross income. For the other 40 percent, divide it among savings, debt payment, and spending.

33. Be patient. Debt elimination doesn't happen overnight. You didn't get into that debt in a month, and you won't get out of it in a month. For many people, it can take several years. While you may be enthusiastic about eliminating your debt, and want to do it right away, realize that you're in this for the long haul. Now settle in to your new lifestyle, and savor the thought of being free of this debt burden.

34. Enjoy yourself. If you absolutely hate your new frugal lifestyle, you won't last in it for very long. Learn to enjoy yourself, enjoy finding ways to be frugal, and reward yourself for eliminating debt. You'll be much more likely to stay in it for life.

Simply said...How To Blog

Friday, August 24, 2007

* Your name: You have to understand that once your real name is published, it's on the internet for good. If your blog is lackluster, will future employers judge you by that? If your blog is a huge success, will your current employer assume your blogging when you should be working? It's almost a no-win situation. If you are just starting a blog, my advice would be to ask you boss if they care and get their response in writing. As long as they are informed and you are not complaining about your company, you should be OK. A good read is, "Blog under your real name, and ignore the harassment" by Penelope Trunk. For me, my name is common enough not to worry. I mean there are hundreds of Jay Whites out there. If you're Ira Kapinsky, you may want to think about it.

* Time: Your blog is YOURS. There are no bosses to push you around and the autonomy becomes pretty addicting. If you get into it, there is a chance that you will make it a top priority. This means that you, like me, will take days off of work in order to write. You don't want to put your primary income in jeopardy so you have to set a blogging schedule that doesn't interfere with your normal job. Without it, you may end up like this guy:

* Be Dynamic: ads, "popular posts", "recent money posts", etc. generally rotate in a completely random pattern. Therefore, if I didn't post anything for an entire week, the look of the site would vary a little for the average reader. This is all done via feeds and the service I use is Feed Digest

* My Schedule: My schedule is mine and it may not work for anyone but me.

* Honesty - There is no reason to lie. I mean sites like Lifehacker have a crew of full time bloggers and although we are in the same niche, this is not a competition. It is up to you to understand your restraints and be forthcoming with your readers. To help combat this a little, I provided a spot on Dumb Little Man for readers to check out the things that I would have written about if I had time. The results have been great so far and people seem to understand the situation.

* Topics: I get tons of blog post ideas from work. I mean, everything from getting a promotion to dealing with complainers came from episodes at my real job. Use life to give you ideas. Things that bother you most likely both others people. A great example is a blog I recently linked to where an Administrative Assistant solves the problems she faces. As long as your blog is solving problems instead of complaining about them, you'll do okay.

* Sharing data: I don't care what your boss says, if you share proprietary company data or vent about the CEO, you will eventually get fired. If you want to do that, start an anonymous blogger blog. Even then you aren't safe.

Ok, so now I am really into this post. Here are some other considerations that you need to consider - working or not:

* Are you even into it?: Do you know how many times I started a diet and eventually caved in? No, you don't but it's a lot. My point here is to start a blog and work at it for a while before you get into the site's design and cosmetics. Get some good posts up on your site and let yourself go. I was lucky that I really got into blogging. If not, that first set of 12 reconstructions would have been nothing but a waste of time.

* Do it right: Choose a topic that you are seriously in love with. I love saving time and money and obviously that is what is all about. When I write, the ideas flow without much thought. If you goal is to make money, you should still choose something you love and not what pays the most in advertising. If you choose something based on money, your writing will suffer and you will subsequently get no visitors. Guess what...no visitors = no advertisers = no money.

* When beginning, read Problogger religiously and be sure to check his archives. I had absolutely no idea what a blog even was. I grabbed with no idea what I'd even write.

* Widgets and other garbage: A blog is about your readers, it's not about you. Everything you add to your site should be added only if the readers benefit. To this day I cringe when I see blogs with 19 badges indicating what groups they are part of, or where they are ranked on irrelevant rating sites. Who cares? How does that benefit the people visiting your site? In fact, take a look at this list of popular blogs and tell me if you see any goofy badges. Sorry, this one annoys me.

* Marketing: I tried everything out there. I submitted my site to everyone that would take it. I even used Blog Explosion that offers you one visitor for every blog you visit. Guess what, it's all a 100% waste of time. Submit your blog to Google, Yahoo, and MSN. That's it. It's not going to hurt you to crazily submit your URL to everyone else, but I just haven't seen the benefit. All of the smaller search engines feed off those main 3 so spending time and money on some master plan is kind of worthless. Good content and good keywords, as we'll discuss, will do all you need.

* Keywords: When you give your posts a title, use really broad words. For example, when I wrote a post on making money blogging, I didn't title the post "How to make with a blog". I used, "Ways to make money on the Internet". Part two was also "Ways to make money on the internet". You see, each of those posts contained the word blog or blogging in the body so by broadening the title to "online" or "on the internet" I grabbed more visitors. To this day - some 6 months later - I still get tons of visitors from search engines based on this post. What you have to do is think of phrases that people would enter into search engines, not what you think sounds pretty.

* Commenting: You know, I have probably made 20 comments on blogs in my life and still did pretty well. While this may be important for real deep niches, I personally never saw a lot of value here. In fact, I found it wasted time since you're inclined to go back to the original blog and see who responded, engage in conversation, etc. Forget it. Use that time for content creation.

* Domains: Do yourself a favor and get a real domain as soon as possible.

* Ads: Keeping with the spirit of, "Your blog is about your readers", there is nothing I hate more than blogs that use pop-up ads or have ads contained in the content. If you are already doing this, realize there are people like me that will never link to you or subscribe to your feed. I want to read your content and I shouldn't have to run through an obstacle course to get there. If a sidebar ad appeals to me, I'll click, but don't dilute your content by adding advertisements in the middle of your post or making me scroll down to get past all the ads.

* I have no readers and I'll prove it. Just read this post. In short, don't show that you have 2 subscribers.

* Making Money: If your goal is to increase your cash flow, be prepared to be patient. The key is to understand that nothing happens overnight and that it it may take at least 6 months of quality writing before you see any meaningful increase. Stay the course no matter what. If you are blogging about you cat, skip this because the monetary future looks bleak.

* Your archives: On all of your blog pages you have to give readers a simple way to access your archives. I use a homegrown script designed by a guy named Aditya. However, it only works on blogger blogs. If you are not pushing people to your past content, you are losing the inherent value that it holds. Regardless of the platform you are using, do something to get old content on your site in a compelling way.

* Linking: I don't care where you come from, what sports you played, or how good you think you are. If some element of your site is not linking to other blogs within your niche, you are being foolish. Blogging is all about sharing information and starting a larger conversation. The second you take a competitive stance, you are cooked. When you link to other like-minded blogs you are essentially telling them that you exist and that you are part of the conversation. Lifehack.org and Lifehacker could be considered competitors but in the blog world, we all share information and constantly link to one another.

* Credits: On a daily basis I am irritated by the number of starter blogs that seem to think it's OK to copy entire posts from and paste them to their blog. If you have any inkling of being successful, you will not do this. First, it's a proven fact that duplicated content hurts the copier in search ratings. Second, there is no way I will ever consider anything you say as legitimate..because you are a fraud. Do not copy posts from other blogs!

* Protection from Copiers: If you have time, Copyscape will help you search the internet for anything that contains the same words that you have in your post; I use them all the time. Second, make sure your posts contain some link back to your site. Many times these content thieves don't change links so you will see their post in Technorati.

* Stats: Checking stats on Sitemeter is certainly not a good use of time. But you know what, it motivates me and to be honest I still check stats 10 times each day. No, it's not going to change anything or make DLM more popular, but I get some personal satisfaction out of seeing where readers come from and what they are interested in. If it motivates you, do it (although other experts will tell you not to).

* The Business: Regardless of what you may think, if you are not blogging about your kids or your cats, your blog will become your little business. Read this post that I wrote a while back to learn about what you can expect from your venture. It took a large check one month to finally convince my wife that this site was real!

* Grammar: It's something we love to hate. My grammar is terrible and I admit it. I try to abide by the grammar police but it's pretty tough. Although you don't have to be perfect, you really need to know the basics.

* Images: If you grab a picture from Flickr, make sure you give credit to the photographer. If you look, our images always link to the Flickr page and provide a caption indicating who took the photo. It's simply good business.

* Don't post after dinner: Back to money for a second. If you use any form of pay-per-click ads on your site (AdSense, Yahoo, etc), I have found that posting after dinner time (6PM PST) results in poor paying ads. This is because advertisers reset their clocks at midnight and thus, the daily ad budgets reset. Therefore, posting at night allows your visitors to read your new content while low paying PPC ads are displayed after big spenders' ad budgets have been depleted. By posting in the morning, you get ads generated by advertisers with full daily budgets. Trust me, I have thoroughly tracked this and posts published in the morning are much more profitable.

9 Ways to Have a Better Day than Yesterday

Friday, August 24, 2007

Did you have a bad day yesterday? If you'd like to start anew and have a better day today, then read on for some tips on how to have a great day today.

1. Decide that Today Will Be a Great Day. Make it real by writing it down and saying it out loud to yourself. It may seem kooky but it works. When I set my wakeup alarm on my cell phone, I have this message displayed "Wake up and smile! Today is going to be a Great Day!" Don't be embarrassed. No one needs to know you do this. :)

2. Take it Slow. If yesterday was bad or if you are tired today, take it slow to "warm up" before you kick your day into high gear. If you need to, stay in "slow & steady" pace for the whole day.

3. Cultivate Compassion, Don't Judge. For a whole day make a pact with yourself not to judge yourself or others. Give everyone, including yourself, the benefit of the doubt for one whole day. Even if you don't believe what you're telling yourself at first, stick with it. It will help change the mental pathways that you tread every day. What do you have to lose except maybe a little misery?

4. Observe, Don't React. When you encounter things that would normally make you angry, (traffic, certain people, slow computer, etc), plan to observe these things in a detached way as opposed to reacting with anger. If you are angry a lot, be kind to yourself and figure out what is making you angry. Often reacting in anger is a habit, and the good news is habits can be broken! Start slow. Are you chronically tired? Are you frustrated with something in your life? Write it down or talk it out with a friend and then make a plan to remedy your triggers.

* If it's rest you need, take some time, say before bed or first thing in the morning, to mentally review which commitments you could cut back on or delete altogether. By freeing up some time, you could get some more rest, exercise, or time to work on something you want to change

* If you're trying to change something in your life to rid yourself of frustration and anger, make a plan, and enlist someone to help you even if it is to just help keep you on track with your plan.

* If you are angry about things in your life that you can't control, try to make a small dent in your frustration a little bit each day. A helpful question might be to ask yourself, "How can I be at peace with this situation today?"

5. Smile at People. Smile at everyone you meet. Fake it 'til you feel it. Laugh at the ridiculous things that happen in life! Humor is the ultimate for producing a sense of well-being. If humor is not your forte, seek out or call the funniest person you know and tell them you need some jokes to get the ball rolling today.

6 Pay it Forward. Do something nice for someone else. Try doing this all day. Compliment people, thank people, let people go ahead of you in traffic or in line. Watch how quickly that goodness comes back to you!

7. Treat Yourself! Make it a point to indulge in a favorite treat or activity, or break one of your own rules today. You know that thing you always want to do, but you never allow yourself. Maybe it's a piece of chocolate cake or maybe knock off from work early for once. You could go to the bookstore, see a movie, go to the beach. Or you could include a friend or loved one in on the fun. Maybe you and some friends could go play paintball or go to F1 Go-Carts. Or perhaps you could pick up some food for dinner, grab a blanket, and treat your spouse/friend/kids to an impromptu evening picnic!

8. Count your Blessings. Even when things are bad, there are always things to be thankful for. List them out in your head or write them down.

9. Get some Great Rest Tonight! You deserve it!

Have a great day!

Please share your ideas for having a great day in the comments!

22 Secrets to Discovering Your Dream and Living It

Friday, August 24, 2007

One of the most important rules of happiness in life is to do what you love. But discovering that dream job and what you are meant to do in life isn't always so easy.

Take a look at the happiest, most successful people on this planet: they are all doing something they love, creating something they believe in, living a life of purpose and passion. Do that, and it doesn't matter how much money you make.

But what do you do if you don't know what you want to do? If you don't know what your dream is? This is a common problem, and many people wander through much of their life without discovering their passion, and go from job to job, unfulfilled and miserable.

If that's you, don't give up. What follows is a list of suggestions that will help you discover your dream, and start on the road to living that dream. They're things that have worked for me and many others I've studied, talked to, interviewed and admired.

While you don't need to do every step below, they are all ways for your to spend time thinking about your passion in life, your dreams, and how to accomplish them. If you spend time thinking about your dreams, you are taking the first step towards making them a reality.

The first step is to give this stuff some thought.

1. What are your hobbies? This doesn't just mean stamp collecting -- it means anything you do with your spare time. That could be collecting comic books, reading about history, programming Linux utilities, writing on your blog, writing poetry, cooking, whatever. As it's clear that this is how you like to spend your time, and that you're willing to do these things without pay, it's very possible that these are your passions. Give each of your hobbies some thought, and think about whether they're things you love to do, and that you'd love to do for a living.

2. What are your talents? It's been said that we each have at least one gift we've been given, and that the true purpose of our lives is discovering that gift, and sharing it with the world. There is much truth in that statement, and an important part of this process is discovering your gift. What are you good at? What talents do you have? What have you shown an aptitude for in your current and previous jobs, in school, in your personal life? Anything goes here.

3. Who do you like to work with? A dream job includes not only what you want to do, but who you are doing it with. You should truly enjoy working with these people. In this step, you can name specific people you love working with, or types of people (creative types, programmers, entrepreneurs, blue collar, etc.). Use your ideas here to help you envision your dream job (more on that below).

4. What do you like to work with? The tools of the job are very important. If you love working with computers (even a specific type of computer), that's a clue to your dream job. If you love working with clay, or paper, or people, or clothes, that's a clue. If you like working with a hammer, or a piano, you're off to a great start in discovering your dream.

5. What environment do you enjoy working in? An office, a college, a classroom, a construction site, the ocean, the forest? Where you work is also an important factor in your dream job.

6. When have you been happiest? Think back throughout all the previous times of your life, from childhood through adolescence, school, different jobs, different areas, different hobbies. Think about the happiest times of your life, and what you were doing, who you were doing it with, and where you were doing it. You may have dismissed some of these things for various reasons, but remembering that you were extremely happy during those times can make you realize why you were happy.

7. Try online tools. There are some great tools online for helping you find your purpose. Here are just a few of my favorites:

* 43 Things: A great way to see what goals others have, to list your own goals, to talk to others about common goals, to get ideas and inspiration. Also see their article, How to Choose Achievable Goals.

* Dreamminder. A site where you write down your dream, and it will send it to you at some point in the future. Use their dream wizard to discover your dream. Read the dreams of others to get inspired.

* One Question: Take a test with questions to figure out your one purpose in life. With articles to help as well.

8. List your top 5 passions. Now that you've given various factors some thought, and tried some online tools, make a short list of your top 5 passions. If you don't have 5, list as many as you have. Then compare your top 5 passions, and rank them from top to bottom. This will be the starting point your guide to making your dream a reality.

9. How can you turn your passions into your work? Of the top 2-3 passions on your short list, can any of them be turned into your life's work? What professions use those passions as a mainstay of their work? How would you get into those professions, and do you think you would love what you do if you did them?

10. Create a clear vision. Clarity of vision is the key to achieving your dream once you've discovered it. Take some time to think about exactly what your dream is, what your dream job would be, how you see yourself doing it, where you are, what you're surrounded by, who you're working with, what tools you're using, the benefits to you and others. Write it down, and try to make it as clear as possible. You should be able to visualize this dream in your head. The more real it seems in your mind, the more likely it is that it will become reality.

11. Create a roadmap. Once you've clearly pictured your destination, what's left is creating a map for getting to that destination. Try backwards planning: what's the last step you'd have to do before attaining your goal? What would the last step be before that step? Keep going backwards until you get to the first step. Then focus all your efforts on that first step.

12. Brainstorm. Sometimes there are more than one road to get to a destination. Brainstorm a bunch of ideas for getting there, a bunch of actions you can take to move yourself closer to your destination. Then put them together into your roadmap. Even if you don't have a complete roadmap, having a clearly defined destination, and taking the first step, are enough to get you started.

13. Do research. Learn as much as you can about your dream. Check out some books from the library, do some web surfing, talk to others who are knowledgeable. Become an expert on the topic.

14. How are others doing it? Find others who are living your dream. Read about them, write to them, meet with them. Find out what steps they took to get there, what's required, how they did it. Then use that information for your roadmap.

15. Practice, practice. While you're taking your steps to realizing your dream, practice your passion as much as possible. Practice, of course, makes perfect ... and you want to be as good at what you want to do as humanly possible. This isn't an easy step, but it's worth it.

16. Get inspired. Find others who are trying to achieve the same dream, see what obstacles they've face and how they've overcome them. Put up photos from magazines to inspire you. Read motivational quotes. If you're inspired, you will have the energy needed to get there.

17. Get motivated. Along those lines, find motivation to keep you on your path. Motivation and focus are the keys to achieving any goal. What are your motivations? Making a public commitment, setting up rewards, inspiring yourself, tracking your progress, and joining a support group or finding a partner are great ways to motivate yourself.

18. Simplify: one purpose. Once you've defined your dream, focus on it completely. That means you need to put any other goals on the backburner for now, and have only one purpose in your life. Later, you can focus on other goals, but if you have multiple goals, you will become distracted and lose purpose. Focus. Simplify your life so that you are keeping your focus on that one thing.

19. Use a mantra. A great way to keep yourself focused is to use Guy Kawasaki's idea of creating a mantra instead of a mission statement. Boil your goal down to a few words. Guys' mantra: empower entrepreneurs. What's yours? Once you've defined your mantra, print it out, post it up, and say it several times a day.

20. Set aside time each day. You will not go anywhere if you don't devote time to your dream. Set aside an hour (or at least 30 minutes) each day for working towards your dream. If you can do more, great, but one step at a time is all it takes. Set aside time either in the morning, or in the evening, or some time when you know you will do it every day. Make it a habit, and you will succeed.

21. Pretend you can't fail. Imagine that you cannot fail, that you may slip up and fall, but that you will get up and learn from that fall. Take away all fear of risk and loss, and believe in your success. Now act as if you cannot fail. And by acting so, you will make it happen.

22. Live as you want to be remembered. How do you want to be remembered when you die? This is a common method for deciding how to live your life. If you want to remembered for realizing your dream, then don't start on it when it's too late. Start on it now. Live your life so that your dream actually comes true.

GAME WANTED LIST:SPORE FIVE LEVELS!!!

Thursday, August 23, 2007

Level 1: The "Cell" portion of Spore will see you assuming the role of a single-celled organism for around 30 minutes. Your goal will simply be to swim around and eat other organisms and, in doing so, enhance your DNA.

Level 2: The "Creature" phase will see you crawling out of the water onto land for the first time. When you get there you'll need to evolve your creature through either aggressive or social interactions with other creatures, through eating various meats and fruits, and using the game's powerful creature design tools.

Level 3: After getting the population of your new species to a certain size you'll enter the "Tribe" phase of the game, which takes the form of a somewhat simplistic real-time strategy game. As a tribe, your main goal will simply be to grow, which you can achieve through procreation or by recruiting creatures from other tribes by befriending or going to war with them.

Level 4: Once your tribe reaches a certain size--the required population appeared to be 15 in the version of the game we were shown--you'll enter the "Civilization" level. Although your creatures can no longer evolve at this point, you'll have the freedom to design buildings, vehicles, and such using tools similar to those with which you designed your creature. Interactions with other groups of creatures will become more complex at this stage, since you'll gain access to strategies such as diplomacy and cultural conversion.

Level 5: "Space" is the final frontier as far as Spore is concerned, and after winning the evolutionary race on your start planet, it'll be time to take to the stars in search of new ones to colonize or conquer. Along the way you'll encounter other species every bit as advanced as your own, and you'll have the option to trade with them, go to war with them, or simply do your best to ignore them.

SIMCITY SEQUEL ON XP!!!! CAN'T HARDLY WAIT!!!!

Thursday, August 23, 2007

EA confirms SimCity Societies will be developed by Children of the Nile shop Tilted Mill; due Holiday 2007, after the long 4 years waiting, SimCity Societies.

This time around, no more zoning for residential, commercial or industrial, just put buildings wherever you desire. Energy is the major new concept in SimCity Societies, and it will let you build the kind of city that you want. A huge selection of work-related buildings to choose from: not just a few categories, but loads of different professions too. There are breweries, bakeries, banks, animal shelters, bookstores, casinos, bowling alleys, bridal shops, cafés, and loads more. The buildings you place will have a variety of effects on your city. By clicking on a building, you can find out a wealth of information such as its operating hours, financial impact, the impact nearby buildings have on it, how many people live or work there, and how it affects your city's societal values: productivity, prosperity, creativity, spirituality, authority, and knowledge. Each building can have a positive or negative effect on these values. Depending on what buildings you choose and where you put them, your city might end up being normal, a small town, romantic, capitalist, industrial, fun, or a number of other characteristics, all of which are reflected in your city's appearance.

SimCity Societies will track and model the citizens in your city to a greater degree than before, each of them will react realistically to their surroundings. The graphics engine looks similar to the ones used in Caesar IV and Children of the Nile, so the camera is lower to the ground and let you see the goings-on in your city from up close. You can also pull the camera back to take in larger swaths of terrain. However, it won't be a system hog like SimCity 4.

Let's hope for the best!

surrealisme kami berlima di genting kota keriangan

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Fazura bukan Paris Hilton

Oleh: NIEZAM ABDULLAH

Sejak dua minggu lalu jadual Fazura agak sibuk.

Perjalanan seni gadis bernama Fazura bukannya mudah.

Bersabarlah Fazura. Itulah hakikatnya untuk menjadi seorang selebriti popular. Tentunya tidak lari daripada dugaan sedemikian.

*Jawab gosip anak raja

Ketika pratonton filem Kayangan terbitan Raden Pictures Sdn.

“Saya amat menghormati dia. Walaupun dia anak raja tetapi beliau boleh bercampur dengan rakyat biasa, tidak sombong dan baik budi pekertinya.

“Apa salahnya saya menjemput dia datang menyaksikan filem Kayangan?

12 Signs Of Falling In Love...

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

12. You read their texts over and over again...

11. You walk really slow when you're with them...

10. You feel shy whenever you're with them...

9. When you think about them, your heart beats faster and faster...

8. You smile when you hear their voice...

7. When you look at them, you can't see the other people around you...all you see is him/her...

6. You start listening to slow songs, while thinking of them...

5. They become all you think about...

4. You get high just from their scent...

3. You realize that you're always smiling to yourself when you think about them...

2. You would do anything for them...

1. While reading this, there was one person on your mind the whole time.....

inta bagiku adalah sebuah alam. sama seperti alam kanak-kanak, alam remaja, alam persekolahan, alam pekerjaan, alam perkahwinan mahupun alam berumahtangga. Alam percintaanlah namanya.

Apabila aku katakan cinta, maka benarlah aku mencintaimu.

Aku cinta padamu. Zzzzz....

Dangerously In Love versi Melayu

Nyanyian::Beyonce Knowles

Lirik::faris.tokio.zakri

Cintaku cintaku cintaku

Sayang ku cinta
Kau hidupku
Tak sempurna saat indah
Tanpamu di sisiku
Kau penghubungku
Jalinan mentari
Kau di sisi
Tiada gelap takkan ku atasi
Kaulah hujanku
Ku benihnya
Kau danNya menyinar
Ku mekar dan ku tumbuh indah
Sayang ku bangga
Sebagai temanmu
Segala keliru pergi
Dari sejuk celaru dunia

Ku mencintaimu
Bebas daku
Tak mampu aku
Hidup tanpamu di sisi
Kerna cintanyaku kepadamu
Ku takkan pergi
Teruskan cinta
Seperti kau cintaiku

Ku tahu cintamu
Mencintai daku
Sebelum ku jauh melangkah
Kaulah jiwaku
Ku tahu sukarnya
Untuk cintaku
Dan ku menghargai cinta dan dedikasi
Kau untukku
Dan dalam takdirku
Ku lihat kita bersama
Ku lihat diriku suamimu
Masa depan di matamu
Seluruh cintaku
Segala tangisku
Semua kurnia
Ku bahagia
Kau tetap di sisiku

Ku terpandang wajahmu
Ku tersenyum
Dan kadang terasa
Amat pedihnya
Dicipta dunia tuk
Mencinta Rasa
Sentuh Nafas
Cintamu

Stop MySpacing!

  • Stop posting pictures taken from the one angle that doesn't make you look fat or reveal your lazy eye.
  • Stop adding anyone to your friend space so that your esteem is bolstered when you see the number of people in your friend list.
  • Stop filling your general interests with lies to make yourself seem like a more well-rounded person.
  • Stop embedding music to play on your profile; you're just showing everyone your awful taste in music.
  • Stop enumerating books to make yourself look like an intellectual; your spelling and grammar indicate a fourth-grade reading level.
  • Stop writing pretentious, fake new-age spiritual nonsense.
  • Stop pretending to use myspace for networking; it's no secret myspace is fueled exclusively by libidos and loneliness.
  • STOP WRITING IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS; it gives away your lack of skills with the keyboard.
  • Stop your pathetic attempts to make myspace visually appealing; leave website design to the professionals. Your backgrounds and color schemes are the stuff migraines are made of. Although on the bright side, most will never know how dumb you are if they can't read your profile.
  • Stop quoting movies, television, music lyrics and other people; try having a thought of your own.

What is the best Internet Service Provider in Malaysia?

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Q+A: What is the best Internet Service Provider in Malaysia?

the answer is here

and my comment is:

Right now i'm using maxis broadband (7++kb package) and it sucks. I used p2p a lot and maxis broadband capped the usage of p2p softwares and the connection is terrible. The only best thing is that there's not much hassle to install it, just a modem (the 3g card is NOT 300-400, maybe it was before), no telephone line & you get connected easily. I bought it altogether for only RM100. Maxis broadband should (1) not cap the p2p usage, (2) widening the coverage, (3) strengthen the signal. Malaysia is a free country. p2p is not illegal or unlawful except if you download copyrighted materials. If Streamyx can, Maxis should not be behind it. Malaysia Boleh! If not, maybe we should all move to Streamyx. Points taken.

Jujurlah Padaku

Sunday, August 12, 2007

Radja - Jujur

Duhai kekasih pujaan hatiku

Dapatkah kau memberiku satu erti

Sedikit rasa yang bisa ku mengerti

Bukan sumpah atau janji

Buktikanlah bila kau ada cinta

Setulus hatimu bisa menerima

Sebatas kejujuran yang kau miliku

Bukan sekadar bersama

Jujurlah padaku bila kau tak lagi cinta

Tinggalkanlah aku bila tak mungkin bersama

Jauhi diriku, lupakanlah aku

Jujurlah padaku bila kau tak lagi suka

Tinggalkanlah aku bila tak mungkin bersama

Jauhi diriku, lupakanlah aku

Selamanya

Q. "How Do I Speed Up My Torrent Downloads?"
From Paul Gil,
Your Guide to Internet for Beginners.

Increase download speeds by opening TCP port 6881, the "dedicated lane" for torrent file downloads.
A. If you are a Bit Torrent downloader, you know what slow download speeds are like...frustrating and annoying, to say the least. Instead of getting your music or movie within a couple of hours, your software predicts it will take 2 to 4 days.

Now, while many of the speed factors involved are out of your control, there is at least one thing you can do at your receiving end to improve this speed. It is called "Port Forwarding", or "opening your specific TCP ports". This is how it works.

1) That blue or green network cable coming out of your computer/modem/router is actually a busy highway comprised of 65,536 tiny electronic lanes (yes, over sixty-five thousand little lanes for your electrons). Each lane is called a "port", and each port is designed to allow only specific types of information through.

Many ports are assigned in a semi-standardized way. Here are some example port assignments:

HTML pages: port 80
FTP file transferring: port 21
World of Warcraft: port 3724
POP3 email: port 110
MSN Messenger: port 6901 and ports 6891-6900
Everquest: port 1024
Bit Torrents: port 6881

2) Bit torrents, by default, first look for port 6881 to enter/exit your computer. If port 6881 is closed for whatever reason, torrents then go to port 6882, then 6883, and so on, until it eventually tries port 6999 before giving up.

3) Every ISP, and every home router, can optionally block any of these ports with the intention of preventing hackers and controlling the network.

4) If you tell your own personal router and firewall at home to open (aka "forward") port 6881 and port 6882, then your bit torrents will find their way into your computer that much faster. Sometimes up to 5x faster.

Yes, opening ports does increase the possibility of getting hacked by unwanted bad guys, but there are means to reduce that threat while still getting fast torrent download speeds.

Next: Bradley Mitchell explains port 6881 and what's involved with opening ports for your Bit Torrents.

Q. What Are The Good BitTorrent Software Packages?
From Paul Gil,
Your Guide to Internet for Beginners.

A. The Most Popular Bit Torrent P2P Software.
June, 2007

Here they are: the most popular 'Music Pirate' downloading software for torrent file sharing. This list is compiled from hundreds of user comments and reader suggestions.

uTorrent
(Known as both "u-torrent" and "micro torrent", this is the most popular torrent tool today. uTorrent has all the functions a torrent downloader will ever need, and it only requires 1 MB of hard drive space and memory. uTorrent has all the downloading and seeding performance of its competitors, but with minimal impact to the rest of your computer's speed.)
January 2007 warning: one About.com reader did report getting a virus after using the uTorrent embedded search engine.

As you should do with any software you install, please run your anti-virus scanner regularly. To specifically scan the uTorrent software, use Windows Explorer to locate the utorrent.exe file on your C drive (likely C:\program files\utorrent). Once you find utorrent.exe file, right-click it and launch your virus scanner. Gratefully, the vast majority of About readers have not had virus problems with uTorrent.

Azureus
(A Java language client; was considered "king" of the torrent programs until uTorrent software came along and took that crown away. As with uTorrent and any other software you install, ensure that you virus scan.)

ABC
(Another very popular Torrent client)

TurboBT
(Nice-looking GUI appearance with this package)

BitComet
(Good, but losing popularity to uTorrent and Azureus)

The Original BitTorrent Client
(Authored by Bram Cohen himself; no fancy GUI here, but it downloads quickly. Recommended for programmer types and Macintosh users)

Warning: while P2P file sharing technology is completely legal, many of the files traded through P2P are copyrighted. Unless you live in Canada where citizens are shielded from P2P copyright lawsuits, downloading music, movie, and TV files will put you at risk for a civil lawsuit in any other country. These lawsuits usually take the form of class-action suits, filed against groups of users who are logged as blatantly copying and distributing copyrighted materials. Recently, the MPAA and RIAA, along with the governments of England and Australia, took several thousand users to court, demanding that they pay thousands of dollars in copyright infringement penalties. Please keep this lawsuit risk in mind when you install and use any BitTorrent software in the USA, Europe, or Asia.

Q. What Are The Good Bit Torrent Search Engines?
From Paul Gil,
Your Guide to Internet for Beginners.

"What Are The Five Best Torrent Search Engines?"
A. As of August 6, 2007, the 5 Best Bit Torrent search engine sites are listed below. This list is compiled from hundreds of reader votes, and voted on each week by a small panel of torrent download users.

The criteria used to evaluate these torrent sites: breadth and depth of database, database currency, ease of use and searching, speed of access, general integrity of files, information provided about the files, information provided on the torrent P2P community, price of membership, and readers' comments.

Warning: while P2P file sharing technology is completely legal, many of the files traded through P2P are copyrighted. Unless you live in Canada where citizens are shielded from P2P copyright lawsuits, then downloading P2P files may put you at risk for a civil lawsuit in any other country.

Your Internet Service Provider may, at their discretion, release their logs of your downloading activity to potential copyright plaintiffs. The more megabytes you download, the more you risk being sued by the MPAA, RIAA, and other pro-artist groups. Please keep this risk in mind before you use any of the following Torrent search engines below.

Related: How to speed up your Bit Torrent client download speed

**Special Mention: ShareTV.org (ShareTV is dedicated to sharing television episodes and entire TV series. Find "24", "Heroes", and "Lost" episodes here. Special thanks to Chris R. for telling us about his web site.)

**Special Mention: TV Links UK **Special Mention: (Fabulous! This site streams the latest TV episodes. That means, once you install the special DivX Web Player, you can see the latest popular television series without having to fully download them. Wait time to start watching a TV show is about 20 seconds on cable modem.)

**Special Mention: Movie and Subtitles dot Net (http://www.moviesandsubtitles.net/ is another metasearch engine that scours other torrent sites for you. Special thanks to reader Boris for this web site submission.)

**Special Mention: Torrent-finder.com (Several readers from the central USA submitted this site recently. This site is gaining a bigger readership every day.)

**Special mention: Mininova.org has 190,000 torrents indexed as of July, 2007. Mininova is the successor to Suprnova, one of the original big torrent databases of the Web.

Demonoid.com (Demonoid is a true reader favorite. Alas, Demonoid is membership based, and open memberships only occur one day each month. Be patient and check Demonoid every day if you wish to join. Otherwise, you will need a referring member to invite you.)

Torrentscan.com (a meta-search engine: Torrenscan is a search engine that searches other torrent search engines)

The Pirate Bay, by readership size, is the most popular torrent search site today. Pirate Bay also has an immense database of 600,000+ torrents, the single largest database available on the web.

Torrentspy.com offers over 420,000 torrents in its database, one of the largest torrent indices that is readily available to the public. Enjoy it while you can.

Isohunt.com
(July 2007: Isohunt has over 450,000 torrents in their database. Isohunt is also being sued by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). If you want to use this tremendous Canadian site, you better use it while you can. Note: any torrent listed as "ISOhunt release" means that it is a file verified by the administrators...a nice feature to help you get authentic torrents, not fake files.)

my sex list

Friday, August 10, 2007

yes it's about sex. no it's not about sex actually, but the list of who i really am...a sexually-formatted creature...what you know and what you don't know about me. what you must know and what you don't have to care about...i'm trying to complete it by next year

the first 45 things
1) don't ever let me cry. don't do anything that will hurt my feeling badly because you really don't want to see what happen next. i rarely, if not never, really cry. so when i cry, everything will get loose. even scary and you don't know what to do with me then.
2) sometimes i do act stupid to the fact that i don't even realize what i did. don't get angry at me. help me to get back to reality. or enjoy the moment together with me. sometimes being out of the edge is good for yourself.
3) i'm so much in love with technology. what i know is that i fall in love with tech since i bought my first pc. never interfere my close relationship with tech. you just can't. my father opened a computer shop before in bintulu.
4) i maybe look geek@need, but actually i enjoy a good dose of nightlife in kl. and you will be surprised at how good i am on the dancefloor. i'm not bluffing. read testimonials in my other blog entries. and no, i don't take ecstasy (what people in kl call it cecek, bebong)
5) i love my family although i don't really show it. i rather die for them and i hope i'm the first one to die before any of them. i just can't bear living without any of them.
6) i don't really pray (sorry) and i want to change that.
7) i bought ps2 and pc games for collection. i do play them but i don't finished them except some titles or those selections from reflexive arcade.
8) i'm one of the original member in SDV (originally s**** d***), now Satria Dewa Vista.. SDV members mean everything to me.
9) i hate most of my pictures. It's hard to select good ones when you are an average looking guy (I'm still a grateful God-creature). that's why i don't really take pictures.
10) i don't like my current life. it's ugly although it's colourful. i don't like being average. i want to be above other people. (sounds like hitler, dictatorship!) i like to be at the top, but not alone.
11) i have a love-or-hate relationship with my current career. I'm hoping to boost my performance more.
12) i'm proud to get the best student award at the peak of my student's life and i'm honest about it. it's the most unexpected miracle in my life. and delivering speech during my graduation day in front of all my fellow friends and lecturers and families, and then captured into DVDs for all graduates? Never, ever dream of that.
13) i love my relationship with my mentor, Cikgu Salasiah Maria (Mama). she gave me chances and opportunities when no one will.
14) i cannot give full attention to everything but i can figure out even the tiniest detail especially people's reactions and emotions. i may look like i know nothing but i do so don't play play with me.
15) i like my brothers and sisters to play games rather than going out without me knowing what they do outside, so i bought lots of peripherals and DVDs.
16) i enjoy watching movies and i love to have a big screen tv one day. i like criticizing them to the smallest detail so try me.
17) i like faded underwear because they look sexier than the rest. i want to try g-string and sometimes i wear boxers especially with kiddies design.
18) my personal favourite store is isetan. i worked there before and i like their mega sale. extremely affordable and good brands.
19) i'm not perfect i know. i'm just like a broken glass still looking for the other fragments of my life. i have lost myself and i want to search for the real ME.
20) i love kids stuff... pokemon, disneyland. i confess that i am childish and can be very annoying sometimes but at least i'm not fake.
21) i bought 3g phone which i don't really use the feature but i love having it anyway. however, i don't like calling or messaging. sounds weird but i love calling using ym. phone is like an emergency tool.
22) i eat a lot. especially sweet stuffs but i'm still skinny. i don't know why. i must figure out how to gain weight. a rich life perhaps?
23) i don't know how to drive and i feel sucks. i'm currently taking classes but i don't know whether i will get through it successfully or breakdown.
24) my favourite colour is green. sometimes i think i'm too bias to green but what can i do. i just can't help it.
25) i don't know how to show true emotion but i know what i hate and what i love.
26) i hate my hairstyle but i don't know how to fashion it. hopefully someone can help me with the issue i have with it.
27) don't smoke or drink in front of me. hate it. unhealthy and bad influence to me. i'm influenced easily so don't tempt me.
28) i like holding hands with anyone but i'm too shy to start it. it makes me feel safe, warm, needed and secure.
29) i like my girlfriend to know everything about me and know how to be with me. i like it when she read my blog, and can recite any sentence from it. i'll be amazed.
30) i don't really watch tv but i actually i wish i could watch more.
31) i pray when i'm extremely happy, not when i need something.
32) i'm not gay. it's hard to convince even my friends. but i have a boyfriend. i'm just being loyal to my own feeling. and i'm seeking for a girlfriend who will take me out of this misery life.
33) i'm a bookworm and being a bookworm since childhood had cost me my eyesight. i'm a bespectaled boy (no, guy. no, man) now.
34) i'm an obsessive and possessive person. i crave for more and more. i want to have the world in my hand.
35) i hate presidents of america. i hope the position will be jinxed just like dark art class teacher in harry potter. but i love to travel there. actually i want to travel around the world without worrying the bills and payments.
36) i read all the harry potter first five books in six hari raya in 2005.
37) i think i have undiagnosed illness.
38) i usually cursed with words like "babi", "sial". i don't like myself when i'm cursing or get mad. i don't want to go beyond that.
39) i don't like being used or using other people. if i don't like them, i leave them. i hope they don't feel bad about me because i did that for both parties.
40) i'm actually not a confident person. it's another thing that i want to change about it. it's funny, i admit it.
41) i got excellent grades although i'm not focusing on my study. even me myself is still amazed by it. again, i'm being honest.
42) i'm scared of ghosts although i love watching horror movies. my girlfriend have to be a strong and brave type of person.
43) my cleanliness level is low but i don't get sick easily.
44) i like the idea of giving 100% of myself to someone that i hold dearly in my heart and trust with my soul. just do anything to me, baby.
45) i'm not ego or arrogant. i'm just too shy to meet new people. hopefully you can start first.

more to come later on. now i know that i need to learn more about myself. if you have anything to add to this list. feel free. but not too offensive ok. a human can only be tested so little than God.

Excerpts from Hacking Myspace

Friday, August 10, 2007
Guyz (& Girlz), I picked these stuffs from "Hacking Myspace" blog. Google it to know more.

John
Hacking MySpace author John Pospisil
Add me as a MySpace friend

  • FIRST: Bad kids on MySpace, good kids on Facebook?

MySpace and Facebook “Good” kids gravitate towards Facebook; outcasts gravitate to MySpace, according to PhD candidate Danah Boyd.

Boyd’s hypothesis simple. MySpace has a reputation as being ”bad”, while Facebook, on the other hand, is all about going to college, and the values associated with getting an education. As a result, the two sites attract kids from different social economic groups.

“[In the early days teens] were told that MySpace was bad while Facebook was key for college students seeking to make friends at college,” explains Boyd in her 4000 word essay.

So who, according to Boyd, is on Facebook?

The goodie two shoes, jocks, athletes, or other “good” kids are now going to Facebook. These kids tend to come from families who emphasize education and going to college … they are primarily white, but not exclusively. They are in honors classes, looking forward to the prom, and live in a world dictated by after school activities.

    And what about MySpace?

MySpace is still home for Latino/Hispanic teens, immigrant teens, “burnouts,” “alternative kids,” “art fags,” punks, emos, goths, gangstas, queer kids, and other kids who didn’t play into the dominant high school popularity paradigm. These are kids whose parents didn’t go to college, who are expected to get a job when they finish high school. These are the teens who plan to go into the military immediately after schools. Teens who are really into music or in a band are also on MySpace. MySpace has most of the kids who are socially ostracized at school because they are geeks, freaks, or queers.

Here I was thinking that MySpace was cool.

Anyone’s who’s actually used MySpace and/or Facebook will know that there’s an element of truth to what Boyd is saying, and while she’s guilty of making some sweeping generalizations in her essay, she’s found a lot of support on the blogosphere.

The co-founder of Salon, Scott Rosenberg, for example, had this to say:

“If you spend any time on these services you can find plenty of anecdotal support for her analysis … For teenagers trying to figure out who they are, the choice of social networking site has become one more agonizing crossroads of self-definition,” wrote Rosenberg.

Given that I’ve written a book about MySpace, I guess that makes me very, very bad.

SECOND: MySpace Div and Flash layouts explained

You may have come across MySpace layouts that look completely different to the standard MySpace layout, and have wondered how the layout was created.

These profiles were created using a technique called “Div overlay” or “Div layouts”. If the profile uses a lot visual effects, more than likely Flash has also been used.

Let’s first of all look at Div layouts.

In a nutshell, how a Div layout is created is that the existing MySpace profile is hidden or covered up, and then a new profile is built over the top. That’s why you’ll see so many weird and wonderful layouts. The only real constraints are that you’re not allowed to cover up the MySpace advertisment, and you need to add back the MySpace contact functionality, in particular the Block User button (the MySpace folks don’t like profiles that can’t be blocked).

So how do you actually create a Div profile?

The best way to get started with Div layouts, is to take some Div layout templates (you’ll find plenty here) and then start experimenting. But before you start, let me explain what it’s all about.

The key to hiding the standard profile is a computer language called Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). CSS allows you to set up a stylesheet that specifies what your web page looks like, and the MySpace people have used CSS to specify what a standard profile looks like.

The interesting thing about CSS is that the CSS code you place in your profile over rides the CSS code placed by the MySpace folks. What this means is that you can use CSS is redefine existing MySpace profile elements. Using the “visibility” and “display” properties you can stop these elements from being shown altogether.

Once the existing profile is hidden, the next step is to start building a new profile over the top. This is where the “Div” comes in. In HTML div tags mark out “logical divisions” of the web page. You can think of them as a container for your content. You can place text and images inside a pair of div tags, and then use the position property to position your content on your profile.

You do need to add back MySpace functionality, and this is simply a matter of creating HTML links in your profile to the various MySpace functions, such as browse, search, invite, etc, as well as the contact box functions, such as Send a message, Add to friends, etc.

As I said, the best way to learn how to do create Div layouts is to start experimenting with premade Div templates, and you’ll fnd plenty of free Div templates at various MySpace groups. My suggestion is to start with Free Divs.

There’s only so much you can achieve by coding your own Div layout, which is why many MySpace customizers move onto Flash.

Macromedia Flash is a multimedia authoring program, which is now distributed by Adobe. Flash is specifically designed to allow you to create web sites with animations and other visual effects.

Multimedia files created by Flash have a .swf extension. It’s possible to play Flash files directly from your profile, as long as you (and people visiting your site) have a Flash player installed—which 98 percent of people do because Windows XP comes bundled with a Flash player.

To create a Flash-based profile, you would need to cover the existing profile using the techniques discussed in this article, and then launch the Flash animation from within a Div, which you would need to size and position appropriately. For more information about Flash profiles, visit the MySpace group Copenhagen Tutorials.

To discuss MySpace mods and customization please visit the Hacking Myspace support forums.

THIRD: MySpace disables links from Flash profiles

MySpace appears to have changed the way that profiles run Flash movies.

MySpace members with Flash profiles are complaining that links from within Flash no longer work, though the changes at this stage do not seem to be affecting all profiles in the same way.

Flash profiles still work, but links will have to be created outside of the Flash movie in HTML.

FOURTH: MySpace made Photobucket; MySpace breaks Photobucket

    MySpace

MySpace has sunk to a new level of low; while recent events are still unwinding, it seems as though MySpace has gone ahead and blocked all user submitted videos and slideshows from Photobucket on their own user’s MySpace pages. But does MySpace have any good reason for this action? It’s possible, but looks to be more as an exercise of power.

The social networking site, Myspace, surely enabled the video and photo hosting site, Photobucket, to reach a level of success that would not have been obtained otherwise. But it certainly isn’t fair for MySpace to imply, “hey, we made you; we can break you.”

“We are not happy about this and we’re pretty sure you’re not happy either,” said Photobucket on their official blog. “We appreciate that you have invested hundreds of thousands of hours using the editing, remixing and management tools and features available only on Photobucket. In particular, you’ve all been really embracing videos at Photobucket — to the tune of 50,000 video uploads a day, which is great. Rest assured that your content is being kept safe in your Photobucket album even though it may disappear from your MySpace pages.”

MySpace claims the reason for the blockage was due to Photobucket’s usage of ad-sponsored slideshows appearing in comments and descriptions on their member’s pages, noting that it was a violation of the MySpace terms of service (TOS).

MySpace made claims to the fact that they had no method to distinguish between the ad-sponsored videos/slideshows and the ones that weren’t; so they simply blocked them all.

While this issue is yet to be rectified, many MySpace users are extremely angry about this; many people have spent a good deal of time building their profiles based on the Photobucket service, and can only hope that this situation rides out as soon as possible.

Photobucket added, ”We were not contacted directly by MySpace about this action, so we do not have any insight into their reasoning behind their actions. Limiting users’ ability to post their content would seem to be contrary to MySpace’s mission and certainly to ours.”

But MySpace claims that they spoke to the company about their actions, and they refused to respect their terms. “We had no choice but to disable their service,” said MySpace, in a statement.

The entire situation is simply based on money; MySpace doesn’t want other corporations, specifically Photobucket, to capitalize on their success, and with good reason. Unfortunately, actions like these are all at their own member’s expense, and this was certainly a step that should not have been taken by the social networking giant.

Thanks to guest blogger George Gardner for this piece.

    HARRY POTTER AND DEATHLY HALLOWS

    Tuesday, July 24, 2007
it took me one whole day to finish reading the latest, the seventh and the last of harry potter books, the deathly hallows. at 5:55 am, on 24th july 2007 to be exact, in between sleeps and naps i took. it's the best book i've ever read. i laughed, cried and shocked with every turn points in the story. important things in the book, spoilers alert:

    1) list of important casualties:teddy tonks (father of nymphadora), dobby the free elf (from the chamber of secrets, i mourned his death), nymphadora tonks, remus lupin, and of course, voldermort himself.
    2) dudley and kreacher is not that bad person/house elf after all
    3) luna lovegood developed a great personality in this book
    4) the brilliant seven potters decoy
    5) severus snape IS innocence, more innocent than albus dumbledore i must say
    6) albus dumbledore is not that good person after all, but i forgave him at the end
    7) deathly hallows are these three things: the elder wand (albus dumbledore's wand, won from grindelwald), resurrection stone (the stone from albus' ring), and the invisibility cloak (inheritance of potter's family from prevell brothers)
    8) harry will marry ginny and they have two boys, james and albus severus together with one girl whom they named lily. and hermione will marry ron.

this book deserved to be named as is. not like the sixth book which doesn't really about half-blood prince but more about the horcruxes.

and for those who thumbed down the movie, i must say that only the true fans of harry potter will appreciate the movie because this time, the movie truly cater and serve for us fans, not for the ignorant lot.

This sweet lil note just want to invite you to http://www.flickr.com/photos/adammale But it's not finished yet. More to come under the mega construction project site. Can you all say, "D'oh". Blogging for Dummies (a reference for me)

    Thursday, July 19, 2007
What do visitors see when they arrive at your blog?

You have seconds to make a good first impression. That first glance might make all the difference between a subscription and the loss of a return visitor.

Design makes a big difference, as in colours and graphics, but layout could make the biggest difference. What you put and where. Today’s tip: 10 minute blog tweaks that make a good first impression.

Your first job is to download and install the Firefox Web Developer plugin. This allows you to view your blog in various resolutions. Set it to 800×600, 1024×768 etc.

What do you see? Anything on screen without requiring scrolling is considered “above the fold”. This is a phrase inherited from the newspaper industry. Anything above the fold is most likely to be seen and therefore is where you want important content.

Your layout should answer the following questions:

Where am I? - Does your visitor have a clear idea where they have arrived? The first thing they should notice is your blog name. What does this tell them? Does it say “My Stuff” or does it say “Wallys Wonderful World of Widgets - tips and news from the widget world”. They need to know what site they have landed on and why they should care.

Who are you? - You will find it easier to make a connection with your readers if you show them who you are. Put a picture in your sidebar, write an about blurb, sprinkle personal details in your posts. Read this from The Godin on name tags.

What is here? - The visitor is there, now you need to feed them before they wander away. First of course should be the content they came for. Are your headlines and first paragraphs in view above the fold or have you pushed all your content down the page with superfluous navigation and advertising? Does the headline and intro pull the visitor into becoming a reader?

Where now? - You have managed to get them to read your article, can you get them to stay? Help them with useful links and buttons. What good articles should they read next, where do they sign up for your newsletter or RSS subscription. They are not going to go searching, you need to put this stuff right where they can find it.

Get a second opinion - While most of us can see right away any issues in other peoples stuff, we are too close to our own to be objective. We all need a second, third or fourth opinion. Best of all is if you can get an expert opinion (thanks Liz! /wave) and feedback from a non-expert, someone like Grandma. Make notes on what they say or record the conversation.

It’s amazing the difference some small tweaks can make. Normally the problems with a layout are hidden beneath hundreds of tiny changes and delayed due to ongoing commitments and priorities. Take ten minutes to look with fresh eyes, your blog and readers will thank you!

    2007 Half-Year Life Review

    Wednesday, July 04, 2007

I'm officially taken at the starting of the year, 3rd of January to be exact and have been in a rollercoaster ride ever since. The biggest turn event in my whole life this year is, of course, I am finally employed as permanent staff in a high-profile broadcasting company. Let us toast together and praying for the bright future.

Being in a relationship, as it turns out, really taught me about myself, about who I really am. Now I know that if someone scolded me at day, I will have nightmares at night. If someone disturb me, I like my other half to protect me and deal with him/her. If I have nightmares, I'm hoping that I will be comforted by the one I love. I admit one fact that my UPM debate teammates (especially A.Kaloi) always teased me about, that I am a dramatic person, not only on debate stage, but also in real life. Even Zuhaini, Achtung and Furkan frequently mentioned that I'm always hard to cope up with, full with surprises, thanks to my spontaneous nature. I am an extra sensitive and emotional type of guy. But sincerely, that's just me being me.

The biggest problem I'm facing now are difficulties to master two lessons, driving car and riding motorcycle. Not that I don't want to. I know that they are the most important lessons I have to swallowed. However, transportation is only a mean to take us to where we want to go to, not creating problems. But that's only my humble opinion. Give me some time and I'll be an expert, I guarantee you.

Another achievement this year is I finally came in term with my exS (an emphasized S there. Haha) especially with the first one after about four years. Now that's a very long period to come in peace.

For future planning, I want to check out the official Nintendo booth at Jaya Jusco Mid Valley.
One more thing, if not final, accept me s who I am, not someone whom you conjure up in your mind. Please. Peace.

I would love to welcome all of you to Aerol Second Life blog. My ateh and ucu already had one in blogger, so why shouldn't I give it a shot. I'm hoping that this blog would be a perfect medium to communicate with my friends. I also wish that I would give the same love to this blog as I gave to my Myspace blog.
